It appears that the city of Jericho is the oldest continuously inhabited town in the world. 
 
Traces of habitation date back to 9,000 BC. Since Fortifications date to 6,500 BC, it is believed that Jericho is the earliest known walled city.  
 
 

 The Israeli Government is based on a Parliamentary democracy.
In terms of Religion: there are 75% Jewish people in the land, 16% Muslim, 1.5% Druze and 3.5% others.  
 In terms of Ethnicity, there are about 77% Jewish citizens and about 23% non-Jewish.
Did you know that the Dead Sea Scrolls are an extraordinary archaeological find, of 1947, discovered by a Bedouin shepherd, in a cave in the Judean desert.

The scrolls are believed to have been either written or copied in the ancient land of Israel between 250 BCE and 68 CE.

The scrolls are cosidered today to be the oldest written-record of the Jewish Bible (the Old Testament). They are displayed at the "Hall of the Book" , in special preservation, at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
Did you know that King Herod: the biblical Jewish/Roman famous leader ruled the land of Israel between 27-24 BCE.
The search for his tomb had lasted some 40 years; but has now been discovered by Prof. Ehud Netzer, of the Hebrew University, at the site of Herodium.

An exhibition, put in place at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, in 2013, is aiming at commemorating the finds of King Herod's life and history. The museum exhibition is held in memory of Prof. Netzer, who fell to his death in 2010 on the site of his discovery.
